Enough already!

March 22nd was our 4th snow storm of the month, all told we had 15" of snow. Previously even a dusting of snow in March was a rare event! The photo above is the Acer palmatum 'Corallinum' that we planted 4 days earlier.

Planted twice in 25 years!

I first planted this Acer palmatum 'Corallinum' from a 1 gallon pot in 1987. I got to plant it a second time last week 25 years on!

Today our friends Martin & Cassandra came out to visit us with their local Girl Scout Troop to learn all about grafting Apples!

Luckily very little blood was spilled & after the class they retired to the Tree House for an afternoon break!

Everything OK?

Chiyoko taking care of the new grafts on the Callus bed.

Good Morning!

March 17th: So far it's rained all but 3 days of the month & we have been dumped on twice with more than 4" of snow each time! Despite that or new grafts are waking up!

Coming Home!

Thanks to the generosity of Anthony at Kinen's Big & Phat Special Plants one of the Embothrium coccineum liners that we shipped them about 8 years ago was returned to us today to help us ensure a regular supply of seedlings!

The tree in this photo is a first generation seedling fron the old Embothrium growing at the Univeristy on Washington Arboretum in Seattle. Though I haven't seen this myself friends have told me that when in flower the tree at the Arboretum can be seen from the air by passengers leaving or arriving at Seatac Airport!

Plants Away!

An order of our Wisteria & Hydrangea petiolaris Mirranda liners ready for pickup!

Goodbye Sycopsis!

Our Sycopsis sinensis got too big for it's spot in the garden & was facing the chain saw! Luckily (for it) our friend Ian had a good home for it & didn't mind digging it up & hauling it off!

March Snow!

Well just when we were lulled into thinking winter was over the snow made a sneaky March 1st. return last night. The Trachycarpus fortunei was very grumpy this morning, we put a few garden pics here.
